The shear joy of watching a three dimensional form emerge from a flat surface is but one of the reasons I enjoy drawing and painting.
As an ‘Academic Realist,’ I am faithful to the traditional methods and procedures, developed in 18th & 19th centuries for building an oil painting. These are the principles of my artistic practice and the tools with which I strive to honour and respect the human form.
The objective of contemporary art, like in ages past, is communication. My emphasis is to provide tangible documentation of human emotion. I believe there is an indignity in not being noticed. Increasingly, I have observed that human interaction is becoming endangered and, as a result, depicting these precious interactions is critical. My primary focus is to honour and respect the lives, the actions and the fate of my subjects.
